How to save 2,000 bucks or What you need to know BEFORE you hire help
I’m gonna let you in on a little secret from someone who at one point had ALL of these jobs.
We can’t give you clarity. We can’t find your story for you. We can’t represent “you” without some very important information.
So if someone tells you they can, well, they are lying. Well, not lying. Flubbin’ on the truth.
Here is the truth:
You need to be 100% crystal clear on:
Who you want to work with
What YOU want to be known for
The story you want to tell
What you do
BEFORE you ask someone to create anything for YOU.
Ask any copywriter and they will tell you that working with people who know they need great copy but have no idea what they want to say is SUPER frustrating.
Marketers, designers and copywriter have one goal. Translation.
The goal is translate your awesome for the people who need to hear it the most.
The goal is not to define. The goal isn’t to build. And it is unfair to ask someone else to do that for you.
When you don’t know what you want, we are forced to make decisions for you. We bring attention to the things we think are best and we highlight the parts of the story we resonate with most.
And this is fine and good but ultimately, you won’t be happy with it.
If you have ever had a website designed or copy written that you weren’t happy with, you know what I mean.
Somehow, they didn’t “get you.”
The website didn’t feel like it belonged to you at all.
You end up wasting 2,000+ dollars on stuff you don’t plan on using. You might end up having a site you don’t even like and you don’t know why.
They asked all the right questions. You thought you had the answers.
And that is why KNOWING your business is so important.
When we truly understand our businesses and KNOW our value, there is an ease to everything.
You know EXACTLY what to tell your designer or your copywriter. You have a vision for what you want to put out into the world.
You are DA boss. And that’s the goal.
It is tempting to pass the hard part of your business off to someone else to figure out for you but ultimately, it ends up hurting your business. You can’t let someone else design your brand for you. You gotta do it.
Don’t delegate your business discovery. Take ownership of your awesome.
Questions to ask yourself before you hire someone new:
-If someone else had to talk about my business, what would they say? Would it be clear?
-Do I know who I want to work with? Not who I “think” I should be working with or who I am working with right now but don’t really like?
-What do I want to be known for? Am I clear about what I want to put online?
-What do I do? Is it clear?
If you don’t know how to answer all these questions, invest in figuring it out – Hello, HBA – or just DIY it until you feel clear enough to get it. Keep writing and keep working.
